Acai and Chemotherapy…
Friday, November 28th, 2008I’m about to begin chemo. I am a generally health conscious person and although “alternative” therapies are ignored by doctors- I still want to drink 2 oz of acai juice daily to help keep my energy up. My doc is opposed to it. Said there aren’t enough studies and it could cause an adverse reaction to the chemo…??
“I am very much health conscious just like you. That is the best way to livelong and free of pain, but now when you are on undergoing chemotherapy let me tell you that chemotherapy- a medicated way to treat cancer although is not really effective still is it used by physicians. In chemotherapy cancer patient’s body is given doses of medicines that destroy delicate DNA; DNA is most vulnerable during replication of cancer cells, hence, their target is rapidly dividing cancer cells which also means the chemo will destroy other rapidly dividing cells, like blood cells which they just monitor. You will hurt your body when you are trying to help it out. So, Chemo is basically a dose of free radicals and free radicals destroy the DNA and Antioxidants combat free radicals, that is why we should eat them and Acai is highest in antioxidants…because on other side damaged DNA can cause you cancer.
Your treatment for cancer with Chemotherapy depends if your body is not interfering with the free radicals. Acai is one of the strongest antioxidants; it will make the chemo less effective by killing free radicals. So this is betters that you take Acai regularly after you are done with your chemo. Then you can drink the Acai juice and whatever else energy drink you want. And when you are free of cancer that you will be, then do indulge it daily to help prevent any new DNA damage that could lead to cancer. I hope I have helped you out…”
